Quote of the Day: Fannie Farmer

"I certainly feel that the time is not far distant when a knowledge of the principles of diet will be an essential part of one's education. Then mankind will eat to live, be able to do better mental and physical work and disease will be less frequent."

Depression As A Spiritual Obsession and How to Cure It

from:

If sorrow knocks at your door, stupefying your head or paralyzing your arms, flee this mental intoxication as soon as you can.

Andr Luiz, by Chico Xavier (Brazilian spiritual leader).

Depression is a disease and has to be treated with medication and therapy. However, its not a physical illness that you can cure simply going to the medical office, and spending money with drugs and rehab clinics. Its undeniably a mental disorder. Its also an emotional affliction, plus a spiritual obsession. I have strong and personal reasons to believe that the cause for this disease, which consequences are killing more than 40,000 people in USA annually, resides on psychic obsession.

There is a psychographic text written by Chico Xavier, whose spiritual author identified herself as Scheilla and which title is Signals of Alarm. In this article, Scheilla warns us about the red signals in the path of a probable fall into obsession. See if you find any similarity with the early symptoms of an arriving depression:

- When we enter the lane of impatience;
- When we believe our grief is the greatest;
- When we come to see ingratitude in our friends;
- When we imagine evil in the attitudes of our fellow men;
- When we remark on the less fortunate aspects of some person or other;
- When we demand appreciation and gratitude;
- When we believe our work is excessive;
- When we spend the day demanding effort without putting forth the slightest service;
- When we intend to free ourselves through the taste for alcohol or the pinch of drug;
- When we consider duty to be only on the side of others

Prevent is more important than to medicate. Nevertheless if you are already deluged by depressive thoughts, start a personal spiritual program in order to change your attitude towards life and other people. Unless you are committed to it, you will never get rid of this dreadful disease. Here some tips: pray constantly, do good unselfish deeds and exercise. I was a suicidal and hopeless person. My entire life changed when I decided to fight against my selfishness, as well as changing my materialistic world into a spiritual one. As Jesus taught us, its important pray and be vigilant. Thats the key to learn by your mistakes, and have a high-quality life.
